There are many reasons people are attracted to East Amwell Township: the scenic views, strong, safe community, proximity to work and roadways, well maintained parks and green spaces as well as a rich deeply rooted history.  

What makes East Amwell Township truly special, however, is our school district. Having a quality school is one of the most powerful drivers of property values. A strong school district creates demand for families and is viewed as a sign of neighborhood stability and prosperity, even by buyers without children. To have a National Blue Ribbon School in East Amwell while also maintaining relatively low property taxes is an achievement and an attraction!  Let's continue to keep our school strong! 



According to the Average Residential Tax Report for Tax Year – 2024, the average residential property tax in East Amwell Township was $9,555. Of the 26 townships in Hunterdon County, East Amwell is the 9th least expensive township for residential taxes. The average residential taxes for Hunterdon County according to the report was $11,198. Neighboring townships and sending districts to Hunterdon Central Regional High School paid between 16-24% more on average than the residents of East Amwell Township.

East Amwell Township School District continues to stand out as one of Hunterdon County’s top-performing school districts, thanks to its strong academic results and its commitment to educating the whole child. In 2025, students significantly outperformed state averages in reading, math, and science—clear indicators of the district’s academic strength. These results reflect the district’s rigorous curriculum, dedicated faculty, and a student-centered approach to learning that prioritizes both excellence and equity. In recognition of its achievements, NJ.com ranked East Amwell as the third-best school out of 20 in Hunterdon County in its June 2025 report on top-performing schools.


East Amwell’s reputation for excellence is further reinforced by its designation as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, a prestigious national honor awarded to schools that demonstrate high academic achievement and meaningful progress in closing achievement gaps. This recognition speaks to the district’s long-standing commitment to providing high-quality education to all students.


Beyond academics, East Amwell embraces a whole-child philosophy, fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where each student’s academic, emotional, physical, and social development is nurtured. Every child is recognized as a unique individual, and this belief is reflected in the district’s daily practices and programs. East Amwell integrates social-emotional learning into students’ routines, helping them build resilience, develop leadership skills, and form meaningful connections with peers and mentors. This balanced focus on academic rigor and emotional well-being ensures that students are not only prepared for academic success but also equipped with the life skills they need to thrive.


East Amwell Township School District is actively strengthening its communication with families and the broader community through a variety of transparent and accessible initiatives. The district maintains a regularly updated website that provides access to announcements, calendars, and a portal for updates on student progress and school communications.


In the past year, the Board of Education has taken additional steps to improve public access by posting policies, regulations, and curriculum documents online. This includes a comprehensive policy audit that was conducted in partnership with Strauss Esmay, resulting in the update of outdated policies and regulations. To further engage the community, the district established a Citizens Advisory Committee, inviting residents to share feedback and participate in district planning. The Board also set clear goals focused on academics, finance, and communication to guide its strategic direction. 


Additionally, East Amwell implemented ParentSquare, a modern communication platform that streamlines school-to-home messaging and enhances parent engagement. These efforts, along with regular updates via social media and the Cougar Courier newsletter, reflect the district’s commitment to open dialogue, transparency, and meaningful community involvement.


East Amwell Township School District continues to demonstrate strong fiscal responsibility while prioritizing student success. The district passed a budget that maintains the essential services students need to thrive—such as academic programs, support services, and extracurricular opportunities—while keeping taxes fair for local residents. Compared to other districts across New Jersey, East Amwell has successfully kept annual budget increases low, even as the cost of employee benefits continues to rise, reflecting careful financial planning and stewardship. The district also maintains a responsible capital reserve, well below state limits, to prepare for future facility upgrades without placing undue burden on taxpayers. East Amwell regularly receives clean audits, reinforcing its reputation for transparency and sound financial management. Additionally, the district continues to offer the Preschool Grant program, saving families thousands of dollars annually by providing free access to high-quality early childhood education. These efforts reflect East Amwell’s commitment to balancing educational excellence with long-term financial sustainability.
