About Us

We have amazing students and a great school! Let's Keep East Amwell Strong!

Students of East Amwell School deserve the best opportunities for success that our community can offer them,

and the ticket of Jason Nelson, Sean P. Murphy, & Carole McGee for School Board take that mission to heart. We believe in:

Debate around facts grounded in truth over inuendo,

Decisions based on what is in the best interest of the students, not ourselves, and

Delivery of educational services that is fiscally accountable to the community of East Amwell.

Board Candidate Biographies

Jason Nelson

My name is Jason Nelson, and I’m honored to serve as the current President of the East Amwell Township School Board of Education. As a proud parent of three students currently attending East Amwell Township School (EATS), I bring both personal and professional dedication to ensuring our children thrive in a safe, supportive, and academically excellent environment. My wife, Nathalie, has also been deeply involved in our school community, serving as President of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) for over two years—further strengthening our family’s commitment to East Amwell’s success.

With over 20 years in education, including a decade as a social studies teacher and another as an instructional designer, I bring a unique blend of classroom insight and strategic planning to the board. I hold a Master’s in Public Administration from Rutgers University, along with certifications in Government Financial Management and School Business Administration. This foundation enables me to make informed, responsible decisions that serve both our students and our community.

During my first term, I’ve served on several key committees: Curriculum and Public Relations, Budget and Finance, Personnel and Policy, Buildings and Grounds, and Negotiations and Grievances. I was honored to be unanimously elected Board President by my fellow members, and together we’ve achieved meaningful progress across several areas that include:

Communication and Transparency

  • Established a Citizen Advisory Committee to enhance community engagement
  • Set board goals focused on academics, finance, and communication
  • Conducted a comprehensive policy audit with Strauss Esmay and updated outdated policies and regulations
  • Made curriculum and policy documents publicly accessible via the district website
  • Implemented ParentSquare to improve school-to-home communication

Finance

  • Passed a fiscally responsible budget that maintained services our students need to be successful while keeping taxes fair
  • Maintained a responsible capital reserve (well below state limits) for upgrades that will be needed in the future
  • Hired a new School Business Administrator
  • Continued the Preschool Grant program, saving families thousands of dollars

Sean P. Murphy

East Amwell has been the place I have called home since I was 5 years old. East Amwell School is a core part of what makes this a great place to live, a “crown jewel” of this town, and it is one of the biggest reasons we chose East Amwell as the place to raise our family. My own days spent at the school from Kindergarten to Eighth Grade shaped who I am today. I want to give back to the school I love and ensure that all of our kids, my six included, have those same opportunities afforded to them that I was blessed to have.

My roots run deep in East Amwell School and community, and my branches run wide. I currently live on Welisewitz road in a home I designed and built with my wife, Amanda, who is also a child of East Amwell. Both of our parents still live here and have done so for nearly 40 years. My mother was a teacher in Flemington-Raritan, and my brothers both attended the school here. Odds are good that you’ve run into a Murphy in East Amwell School, both past and present. We have 6 children – one in 7th, 5th, 2nd, Kindergarten. The oldest just graduated 8th grade and is now at HCRHS.  The youngest is still only 2 years old, but his time will come, too. I have 2 nieces that also attend the school.  Heck, maybe one year they will name a bus after us…

My fall and spring seasons are spent at soccer. I am a member of the South Country Soccer League board serving as Treasurer, and I have coached our teams that have included many of your children since 2017.

I spent my elementary education at East Amwell School, played a role as my 8th grade student council president and (funny enough) presented to this very board at age 13. Then I went off to Hunterdon Central, then New Jersey Institute of Technology in their Honors College earning a degree in Computer Engineering, and eventually returning to school in 2014 to complete my MBA from Stern School of Business at NYU (bless my wife, Amanda, for that too).

I work as the Head of Software Engineering at a newly spun off Fortune 500 Consumer Health company leading a globally diverse organization of extraordinary engineers and a multi-million dollar technology budget. Prior to that I was an executive at a major local pharmaceutical company in IT for 20 years.

Why the school board? East Amwell School was the place I grew from to become what I am today. I simply want my children, and all our kids, to have the same opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive that I had. Times change, new perspectives are important for growth, and communication and organizational discipline are critical aspects I hope to work with our Board to focus on – always with a principle of doing what is best for our children to become the best versions of themselves.

I love this school. This is my school. What happens within it is important to me and I will always stand up for what I believe is in the best interest of all of our children, and that is why I humbly ask for your vote this November for East Amwell School Board.

Carole McGee

Carole McGee has proudly called East Amwell home for the past 24 years. A graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University, she holds degrees in Economics/Finance and Business Administration. Carole spent 22 years at Johnson & Johnson, where she worked in both Human Resources and Consumer Affairs, managing a 70-seat on-site call center. She later chose to focus on raising her family, becoming a stay-at-home mom. Carole is currently employed with St. Luke's Physician Group Access Center, a 700-seat call center as a Workforce Management Analyst.

Deeply committed to faith and community, Carole spent a decade teaching second-grade Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) and organizing Vacation Bible School at St. Magdalen de Pazzi Roman Catholic Church.

She is the proud mother of three accomplished daughters: Erin, EATS 8th grade class of 2017, a Physics and Math graduate from Stevens Institute of Technology now pursuing her PhD in Physics at Yale University; Katie, EATS 8th grade class of 2018, a senior Biology major at The College of New Jersey who recently conducted field research in Alaska; and Reagan, EATS 8th grade class of 2020, a sophomore at the University of Rhode Island studying Wildlife Conservation, Biology, and Environmental Science, who worked this summer with the USDA Beneficial Insect Lab.

Carole has served on the East Amwell Township School Board for 12 years. During her tenure, she has been instrumental in key initiatives including the installation of a secure school entrance (2015), the replacement of aging classroom trailers with a permanent building addition (2019) — all accomplished with no impact to taxpayers — and celebrating the school’s recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2018.

Her passion for East Amwell Township School, its teachers, administration, and staff is unwavering. As a licensed real estate agent, Carole understands that a strong school district benefits not only students and families, but the entire community by preserving high property values and fostering civic pride.
